Chabad of Texas Unveils Mega Website
Jewish Herald Voice; Houston, Texas; Page 14; August 22, 2002Chabad Lubavitch of Texas, a Jewish outreach, educational and social service organization, has launched a mega-interactive website. "ChabadTexas.org" (http://www.chabadtexas.org) provides a treasure trove of information just in time for this season of the Jewish New Year.
The site is dedicated to keeping people informed of upcoming events, Jewish learning and holidays. Information is also available on Chabad Lubavitch Center's facilities; including synagogue, J.E. Karpf Torah Day School, and Mikvah (Jewish Ritualarium).
“With the High Holidays approaching, many ask about our organization's activities,” said Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff, Texas regional director of Chabad Lubavitch. “This site will be an address for people to turn to, anytime anywhere.” The site, www.ChabadTexas.org, was launched in early August.
With Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot just around the bend, site visitors have links to hundreds of web pages chock full of everything from practical how-to guides, to deep mystical and Talmudic insights, to interactive games and a worldwide searchable database of High Holiday services.
Updated daily throughout the year, the site offers provoking thoughts of Torah about the weekly parsha (Torah portion); it also contains an online magazine and a thought for the day. It can aid visitor with daily Torah portions by providing audio and video links to Torah classes, including the acclaimed "Living Torah" – a weekly video magazine. "Many people want to be able to learn in the comfort of their own home or office", said Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff, the new program director for Texas Friends of Chabad Lubavitch. "This will be their 24-hour local source of Jewish learning".
Perhaps the most revolutionary feature offered, is the "Ask Moses" link. Rabbis are available 24/6, (all days of the week, except for the Jewish Sabbath and holidays), live, one-on-one, to answer your questions on any topic. In addition, ChabadTexas.org offers activities and stories for children, and issues of the Chabad Lubavitch Center Newsletter.
Gearing up for a trip? Site visitors can find contact information for Chabad Lubavitch centers and Sabbath candle-lighting times worldwide.
