Yom Kippur

Eating on Erev Yom Kippur is the spiritual equivalent of fasting on Yom Kippur, as our sages say, If a person eats and drinks on the ninth, it is as if he fasted on the ninth and tenth.

Traditionally, on Erev Yom Kippur we eat kreplach.

 

One might explain this as follows: On Shavuos, the time of the giving of the Torah, the two loaves are offered upon two lambs, as is written, The priest shall wave them (the two lambs) on the bread of the first fruits, the bread above and the flesh below.

 

So on Erev Yom Kippur, when the second tablets were given, we also eat food that contains meat with wheat flour on top.
