Ehh, actually Jesus was born in sinprg or early summer - not during the Winter Solstice. As for Eastern Orthodox churches and their New Years, for the longest time they have their New Year on 1 September. They also use the Julian, as oppose to Gregorian, calendar - thus their December 25th is our January 7th.
