T. Alan Hurwitz, president of Gallaudet University, the national university for the deaf, lit the menorah there. The word "Chanukah" is written on his kippah in ASL, American Sign Language, used throughout the ceremony by Rabbi Joshua Soudakoff.

Wonderful Role Model My son is deaf, and seeing the president of a prestigious national university for the deaf light a menorah shows him that he can still succeed and be at home in both the professional world and the Jewish community. Reply
