Chabad Stands with Central Texas in Prayer and Action

Our hearts are broken as we witness the devastation caused by the floods in Central Texas. Homes have been swept away, families uprooted, and most tragically, lives have been lost—including precious children. The pain is deep and the grief unbearable.

On behalf of the 140 Rabbis and Rebbetzins serving at the 43 Chabad centers across Texas, we extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to all those impacted. To the grieving parents and families: may the Almighty comfort you among all who mourn, and may you find strength in the love and support surrounding you.

As Jews, our response to tragedy is always twofold: heartfelt tefillah and tangible action. We encourage everyone who is able to join in supporting those impacted by this disaster. As the Rebbe taught, even a small light can dispel great darkness.

Chabad of Texas has activated the emergency response system. If you still need help in any way reach out to your local Chabad center and they will try their best to assist you under these extraordinary circumstances.

While many Chabad Houses remained without power, some sustaining significant damage, yet they were selflessly taking care of the community.

In Frigid, Blacked-Out Texas, Chabad Houses Are a Lifeline

Phyllis and her friend Mary Alice were at home in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Monday afternoon, and they were cold. Like millions of other Texans, they had no power and no means to get warm as the temperatures outside continued to drop.

“It was very difficult to deal with,” the 73-year-old Phyllis, a member of the local Jewish community, recalled on Thursday. “We were wrapped in a number of layers of clothing and winter jackets.”

Everywhere one looked in Texas, the picture was the same. Power outages plunging people into cold and darkness; burst water pipes flooding homes and leaving many without fresh water; and even where water remained, it was in some cases contaminated and not safe to drink.

Chabad Centers helping others through freeze

Several Chabad Centers around Texas sustained damage from the freeze this week, but that didn’t stop their emissaries from helping others in need.

“The main objective was to get food and clean water to people that didn’t have it,” Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff of Chabad Lubavitch Center, the Texas Regional Headquarters, told the JHV.
